One of my
favorite things in life, are spontaneous road trips. We've always been a bit of
wanderers by heart in our family. We can never stay in the same place for too
long, and we are always looking for new weekend trip destination or mid-day
de-tours.
Last week,
my dad had to run an errand in Trieste, and of course we couldn't pass the
opportunity of making a trip out of it.
As always,
we had no plans, other than get there and explore. I've been to Trieste quite a
few times before, by my destination was always the shopping center on the
outskirts of the city, and I never really got the chance to explore the city,
so it's safe to say, I was really excited.
It wasn't until we were just at the border with Italy, that I remembered there might be a MAC store in Trieste. I popped online and just managed to check the address of the store, before we crossed the border. When we got there, we managed to get a parking space right in the center, and off we were to stroll around in the sunshine.

There is a
specific charm in the older parts of Italian cities. You can still find a
proper vintage looking cafe, which instantly makes you feel like you found
yourself in the previous century. The beautiful rhythm of Italian language is
buzzing all around you, and there is an amazing smell of freshly ground coffee
in the air. You can't really beat a proper Italian espresso. Forget Starbucks
and other major coffee shops, a small pot of hot and delicious espresso, that's
the real deal.
My dad went
off to his appointment, and I, my boyfriend and my brother were off to explore
the city. It hasn't even been 5 minutes, when we found the remains of an old
roman theatre, hidden between the new-er buildings around it.
Moving on,
passing cute little boutiques and perfectly disheveled buildings, I spotted the
familiar black and white design of the MAC store logo. Looking up the same
street, there was a big Kiko store, and I was practically running towards them.
To no-one’s
surprise, my brother decided to wander around the streets, so my boyfriend and
I headed into Kiko by ourselves. I'm not usually picky about stores, but this
one seemed especially nice. It has huge windows through the whole side of the
store, which fills it with lots of natural light, making it perfect to see what
colors suit you the most.
The setup is lovely and roomy, everything seems orderly and color coordinated which sooths the neat-freak inside of me.
The most glorious part of a Kiko store is their nail polish range. There is a wide array of colors available, and with all the colors of the rainbow, you feel almost delirious by all the different choices available to you. This time I was (really) good, and only got a backup of my favorite lip liner and a gorgeous, lavender-blue nail polish, that I simply couldn't pass up. (in case you never tried a Kiko nail polish, what are you waiting for? They are amazing!).

Then we
headed to the MAC store, to be honest, with my heart already set on picking out
my first ever MAC lipstick.
The store in Trieste is really small, but there is so much to choose from. They even had the Cinderella collection, with the prettiest packaging. I spent ages in there, swatching everything, but spent the most time by the lipsticks.
I must have probably swatched all of them, and immediately after swatching Mehr, I knew it was the one. It's a matte (my favorite) finish and the pretty brownish-pink color is my favorite to wear on the lips.

After
leaving the MAC store, we met with my brother again and headed to towards the
sea.
The day was perfectly warm and sunny and the sea so still and calming, it was absolutely gorgeous. Then we headed into the city again, browsing through the streets, little markets and little churches hidden everywhere.

On our way
home, we stopped in a little village called Bazovica, where the cutest little café
serves amazing fresh homemade pastry, for a little pick-me-up and out last Italian
coffee of the day.
It was a
perfect day and I can't wait to go back and explore the city some more.
What are
you up to this weekend?
Thanks for
reading and see you in my next post!
