2016 Make-Up Favourites

Yearly favourites are one of my favourite content, as they perfectly round up everything new or worth mentioning from the past year, they are a great source for makeup inspiration and recommendations and something that I look forward to at the end of the year. So today, I'll be talking about my absolute favourite makeup products from 2016.

FACE

L'Oreal Infallible Mattifying Base

Due to the oily surface of my skin, keeping makeup on my face has been quite tricky for me. Luckily, I've discovered this primer, which not only keeps my skin matte, but also smooths the surface, makes the pores appear smaller and helps to prolong the staying power of the products I put on top of it.

I got mine at a local drugstore.

Milani Conceal+Perfect 2-in-1 Foundation + Concealer

This year I've fought a battle with foundations as none would work the way I needed it to and when I was about to give up, I read Mateja's Beauty Blog blogpost about this one. There was a lot of hype about it on foreign channels, but reading a positive review from a blogger I really trust, was the final push I needed to try it out.

It does everything I need my foundation to do, offer high coverage that lets me skip concealer on everyday basis, wears for a very long time and does not look patchy. The semi-matte finish helps with my oily skin but still manages to look quite natural. The shade range is quite sad, but fortunately for me seem to be more suited for slightly darker skin tones with yellow undertones.

I got mine from Click2Chic.

Rimmel Match Perfection 2-in-1 Concealer & Highlighter

This concealer was a big surprise for me as I added it to my online basket on a whim and it turned out to be amazing. I got mine in a shade lighter than my skin tone and use it to brighten the skin under my eyes or for a bit of natural highlighting.

It has medium but buildable coverage and makes the skin look smooth and hydrated throughout the day. I tend to use it even on the days that I do not wear makeup as it makes me look a bit more fresh and awake than I actually am.

I got mine from Salma.si.

It's quite rare for me to get really excited about a new release, so when I couldn't stop thinking about this palette, I knew this meant something. Though I think many people were not impressed with this palette, I've used it a ton throughout this year. The pigmentation is not really strong, but that is the main reason I love these so much.

They are incredibly easy to apply and blend and can be build up in layers to achieve a stronger look (which I don't really tend to go for often, TBH). The two blush shades are lovely natural pinks that give my cheeks just the right flushed look, and if I want a bit more glowy look, I go over them with a bit of the highlighting shade from the palette.

I got mine at a local drugstore.

Catrice Deluxe Glow Highlighter palette 010 Glowrious Three

After falling in love with the blush palette, there was no doubt I would also give the highlighting palette a try when it came out. Again, this is not for people looking to blind others with their highlight, but more that something extra to brighten up the look and give the skin a nice subtle glow.

Usually I tend to mix all three shades together and apply them to the tops of my cheeks, but there are times when I use the most neutral shade to set my foundation and it worked out just lovely.

I got mine at a local drugstore.

Freedom Pro Highlight in Ambient

When looking for an actual glow, this is what I reach for the most. A perfect, natural skin-toned shade without shimmer gives the skin a gorgeous glow that creates a perfect finish to any makeup look.

The texture is soft and easily blended, and mixes well with any other product that is applied beforehand. Such a great budget option and it is subtle enough that I will never get tired of using it.

Mine was a PR sample, but you can get one from Licila.si.

ArtDeco Contouring Powder in 21 Dark Chocolate

This year was a time when (almost) everyone tried at least a bit of contouring. I found the hardest part to be finding the right shade, that wouldn't look to ashy or too warm on the skin.

My search was complete when I found the contouring powder from ArtDeco. With lovely buttery texture, and a lovely dark but ashy brown, this makes it easy to sculpt my cheeks and face.
Staying powder is really nice, and it doesn't look patchy even hours after application.

I got mine from a local drugstore.

Big Metallic Face Brush

When RT released their metallic brush collection, everybody went a little crazy about them, I thought they looked absolutely amazing but was shocked to the core when I saw the price tag on them.
Lucky for me, Petra from Adjusting Beauty found some great dupes on E-Bay and when I saw her blogpost, I had to get some for myself. They look very similar to their RT pricey versions, but cost the fraction of the original price.

The bristles on the big powder brush are long and soft and while I found them to sparse for applying setting powder, I absolutely love it for applying bronzer. It picks up just the right amount of products, blends it perfectly and (TBH) I just love using a big brush for bronzing.

I got mine from EBay.

Metallic Contour Brush

Another dupe for the RT metallic brushes, and although this one is supposed to be a contour brush, I find it way to wide and dense to sculpt the face. However, it is amazing for applying thick foundation (like the Milani one mentioned above).

It blends everything seamlessly, doesn't »eat« too much of the product and its shape comes in quite handy for blending around the nose and other tricky areas.

Jessup tapered highlighter brush

This brush came as a part of a big set that I ordered mostly for the eye makeup brushes that came with it, but after a little while, I realized that this one is amazing for highlighting.

Tapered shape makes it easy to precisely apply the product and the soft and fairly dense bristles pick up just the right amount of product.

I got mine from EBay.

MakeUp Factory Gloss Expansion

It might seem weird, including a whole expansion into my favourites, but in reality, after these arrived to my post-box, they were the only things I wore for months.

My favourite formula are of course the liquid matte lipsticks –the new shade range has a bit of everything: nudes, brights, reds and vampy shades. They dry out to a complete matte finish and stay on the lips for hours. Though they do not survive eating intact (except for light snacks), they are easy to re-apply and at the end of the day my lips don't feel as dry as they do after using liquid lipsticks from some other brands.

Besides the matte finishes, their glosses and hydrating smoothies are fabulous, and offer all the shades that anyone could possibly need.

Mine were a PR sample, but you can find them in your local drugstore.

Avon Matte lipstick in Pure Pink

In the beginning of the year, this shade and formula blew my mind. Avon released a matte lipstick formula that is amazing and rivals with a lot of high-end brands (yes, even MAC) and the shade I loved in the spring was a gorgeous pink, perfect for that time of year.

Its easy to apply formula, really long lasting power and non-drying effect were one of the most impressive finds this whole year.

Mine was a PR sample, but you can order one from Avon.

Wet'n'Wild long-lasting lipstick in Bare It All

For those on a strict budget that still want an amazing performance from a nude lipstick, look no further that this long-lasting matte formula by Wet'n'Wild. While they are nothing new on the foreign scene, these are »fairly« new to our market.

They have a creamy formula, fantastic pigmentation and a wonderful matte finish. Although they are a bit drying on the lips, this was my favourite throw-in-my-pocket everyday lipstick.

I got mine from Click2Chic.

Misslyn lipstick in 254 by nature

If you are not so keen on the matte formula, this has been my favourite go-to for an easy lip look. A lovely nude shade with a rich and creamy formula that stays on the lips for at least few hours. The shade might have been a part of a LE (I'm not completely sure) but it's the formula that I really enjoy, as it works well even in the darker shades.

Mine was a PR sample, but you can get one at your local drugstore.

EYES

___________________________________________________________________

Avon Eye primer in Light beige

This has been a favourite for two years straight. Through the years I've tried quite a lot of eyeshadow primers (including a few from UD) but this is the one that has my heart.

It prolongs the wear of any product I put on my lids, helps to intensify the colours and keeps the shadows from creasing or sliding down my face. It is an absolute bargain, you only need a tiniest bit and it comes in a nice, handy little pot.

I ordered mine from Avon.

Avon Matte Eyeshadow Quad in Au Naturale

For me, the biggest surprise of this year was how much I reached fort his Avon quad, even over quite a few or my high end »holy grail« eyeshadow palettes.

It comes with four matte neutral shades, all of them equally pigmented, buttery and easy to blend. They are versatile enough to create an understated daily makeup as well as a full-on smokey look that will stay on the eyes throughout the day.

When in doubt, or when I am getting ready for a special occasion, I always reach for this palette, as I know I can trust the shades to work exactly how I want them to and to stay put no matter what.

Mine was a PR sample, but you can order yours from Avon.

Sleek Dip-It Eyeliner in 262 black

After proclaiming myself a die-hard lover of the ArtDeco High Precision liquid liner, I challenged myself to find a great drugstore eyeliner that would stay on my eyes and make it easy to create a winged liner.

Although it does not perform as well as my beloved High Precision liner, this one is pretty darn good. It has a nice applicator that is easy to work with and is extremely pigmented. The staying power is wonderful; it even survived the summer days when the rest of the makeup on my face just melted into oblivion.

There are many shades available, and though the black one is (of course) my favourite, I also really enjoy the green, purple and teal one.

I got mine from Click2Chic.

There was so much hype about this mascara that I had to try it, but to be honest, I wasn't expecting much. Boy was I wrong!

This mascara does everything I want and more. It is a true black and the formula is just gorgeous. It elongates the lashes, makes them look fuller and helps them hold the curl throughout the whole day. It is the closest I ever got to the false lash effect by just using a mascara.

The waterproof formula stays on (almost) no matter what, it even survived a few times I wore it to the beach. It's a bit tricky to get it off at the end of the day, but an oil based remover should do the trick just fine.

I got mine from Salma.si.

.....

Here we are, at the end of my first blog post this year. If you enjoyed this one, come back in a few days for an overview of my favourite hair, body and skincare items from last year.

If you are interested in my favorites from 2015, you can click here. I find it interesting how many of the products from my January Favorites 2016 made their way into my yearly favorites, I've obviously loved some of this products for the entire year- how cool is that?

It's been a long while since my last blog post, there was a lack of time, a lack of inspiration and a series of unlucky events making me question whether I even want to continue, but at the end of the day, I love blogging and can't wait to see what the year brings me in this area of my life.

Thanks for reading and see you in my next post!

  5. Se strinjam z kategorijo ustnic! Avon in MF are on fire :)
Maybelline maskare so mi pa preveč ''mokre'', mogoče bi jim morala dati še eno priložnost.
