It's time for the first favourites of the year. January was quite slow and home-oriented. I got a new puppy at the very end of the year, I’ve had my hands full, and days packed with puppy-related activities and tasks.

 During the first weeks, I did not even get a chance to sit down and do my makeup, barely even finding time for a shower and a face wash every day. It started getting a bit easier at the end of the month, but I still wore only minimal makeup and used only the basic products, which is well reflected in the products I reached for the most. 

Here they are:

LE COUVENT DES MINIMES EAU DES MINIMES EVERYDAY DEODORANT WITH ALUM STONE

Deodorants really are not the field I like to experiment in. However, being aware of unpleasant effects of aluminium in many deodorants, I was eager to find something with better ingredients.

I received this one in autumn and didn't pay much attention to it for a while. 

After finally giving it a go, I was impressed. The scent of deodorant is zesty and natural, but does not linger too long. It kept me smelling fresh, odour-free and lasted just as well as my other favourites.

I'm happy to find a well-performing deodorant with good ingredients and am excited to possibly discover more products from the brand.

REAL TECHNIQUES MIRACLE SCULPTING SPONGE

For the longest time, I only used brushes to apply my foundation. Finally, I tried a few and realized how great they can be. Lately my foundation just would not apply the way I wanted it to and I finally decided to bring out the Real Techniques sponge that has been waiting in my stash for months.

Even just wetting it under running water, I was completely impressed. It grew much bigger, softer and sponge-y. I find it a bit tricky to apply foundation with a sponge, so I use a brush or my fingers to do that, and then go in with a sponge to really blend it out and make it look as even and natural as possible.

It works amazing, doesn't »eat up« a lot of product and makes my foundation look fresh, flawless and natural. Differently shaped sides are great to use on different areas of the face. The sponge works well with light or high-coverage formulas and concealers as well.

CATRICE CAMOUFLAGE CREAM IN 020 LIGHT BEIGE

In January, I was all about fresh and natural looking skin and a very natural look. That is why I used a light layer of foundation and used a high-coverage concealer to fix any imperfections.

The Camouflage Cream has a very thick and creamy formula that offers a lot of coverage and last for a decent amount of time. I apply a tiny bit on any discoloration or spots and blend it in with my (above mentioned) makeup sponge.

It covers anything, does not look cakey and makes sure my skin looks clear and flawless.

BOURJOIS HEALTHY MIX CORRECTING CONCEALER IN 52 MEDIUM RADIANCE

Although the Catrice concealer works amazing on spots and other imperfections, I like using something lighter and a bit more hydrating for the under-eye area. Apparently packed with fruit extracts, this Healthy Mix concealer applies smoothly, helps to keep my dark circles hidden and helps to brighten up the skin.

I do not suffer from too obvious dark circles and like to stick to lighter concealers under my eyes. This does just what I need it to and (very importantly) does not dry out the skin under my eyes. (Also, who doesn't love that fruity Healthy Mix scent?)

L'OREAL BLUSH SCULPT TRIO CONTOURING BLUSH IN 201 SOFT ROSY

As I mentioned before, I kept my makeup simple and fresh. Although, in the depths of winter, it gets quite hard to maintain a nice healthy flush to the cheeks.

I found that mixing all three shades gives my face just the right amount of colour and radiance. It stays on the cheeks throughout the day (which I find quite rare in blushes) and does not look too shimmery, even though the lightest shade in the pan is more of a highlighter.

Super handy, as there are three shades in there that you can use separately, and multifunctional, because the two lighter shades can work well in place of eyeshadow, this blush trio is a must-have in my makeup bag at the moment.

As I said at the beginning of the post, I did not use many products this month, but actually quite enjoyed the easy and natural makeup look I wore.

 Still, there were quite a few exciting pieces that were added to my makeup collection at the end of the month and I am really looking forward to properly trying them out this month.
